Big Tree is a Hong Kong-based charity that focuses on making a big difference to the lives of the animals under its care.
The Big Tree story starts with Mr. Tsang, a construction foreman. In Hong Kong, construction sites frequently use guard dogs to protect the area, but sadly many of these dogs are illegally abandoned once construction has finished. Mr. Tsang rescued 10 dogs and brought them together under the umbrella of Big Tree. He began by housing them at the site he was working at on Hong Kong Island. The number of dogs under his care grew until the landlord demanded he move them, which led to Mr. Tsang taking over and renovating an abandoned pig farm in the New Territories. Now, Big Tree is home to over 110 dogs and 60 cats, which are housed separately. The charity is run entirely by a team of volunteers.
Yvonne’s daughter Zoe, is a committed pet lover and was greatly moved by the care and compassion shown by Big Tree’s volunteers. To this end, she proposed that the Yvonne L. K. Lui Foundation should support this worthy cause and extend its support to the dogs and cats who call Big Tree home.
